Urinary symptoms in perimenopause: what is happening

Bladder changes are common in perimenopause. Estrogen supports the tissues of the urethra and bladder, so urgency, frequency, and leaks can appear even without a UTI.

What helps: pelvic floor exercises (the genuine ones, and a physio session is worth it), staying hydrated but tapering before bed, and limiting bladder irritants like caffeine and acidic drinks. If it burns or smells, see a doctor for an actual UTI check. There is also low-dose vaginal estrogen, which helps many women a great deal.
